Reset rocket in VRC Oaks

Darley resident Reset has thrown down the gauntlet to Bel Esprit for bragging rights as Victoria’s champion stallion.

Reset’s progeny earnings rocketed past $2.27 million this season when his filly Set Square won the G1 VRC Oaks (2500m) at Flemington on Thursday.  The Super VOBIS qualified filly became Reset’s fourth Group 1 winner less than a month after his flag-bearer Fawkner won the Caulfield Cup.

Bel Esprit has won the last 7 Victorian premierships and weight of numbers should help the Eliza Park International champion claw back Reset’s lead which is currently more than $700,000.

Set Square (3f Reset – Dynastar by Zeditave) was a late-entry for the VRC Oaks after wins in a Ballarat maiden and the LR Ethereal Stakes at Caulfield .  She enjoyed the run of the race at Flemington before driving through a gap in the straight to defeat Thunder Lady by more than a length.

“She just kept getting better and better every time we saddled her up this prep,” trainer Ciaran Maher said.  “There was never a question about the trip.  It was more whether she had the experience.”

Bred Ken King’s Parador Park Thoroughbreds and syndicated to a large group of owners; Set Square comes from the family of G1 South Australian Derby winner Testafiable.

Reset (Zabeel) is the sire of 27 stakes winners and he stands at Darley Victoria’s Northwood Park for a $16,500 (inc gst) fee.
