Rich pay-day for Rocky

Rocky Boomboa banked a lucrative bonus in the VOBIS Gold Carat (1200m) at Moonee Valley on Saturday and there’s another rich pay-day looming in a fortnight.

The son of Emirates Park Victoria sire Artie Schiller will be set for the $250,000 Inglis Dash (1100m) at Flemington on January 16.  “He’s a real professional and we will keep chasing the bonus money,” trainer Henry Dwyer said.  “He’s done a great job but never does any more than what’s required.”

Rocky Boomboa benefited from a brilliant Damien Oliver ride in the VOBIS Gold Carat.  He took off mid-race and then dictated in front to win by three-quarters of a length from the even-money favourite Love Days.

“They were going slow and he was pretty comfortable when we got to the lead,” Oliver said.  “He gave a good kick and feels like a neat little horse.”

Rocky Boomboa (3g Artie Schiller – Rockellen by Rancho Ruler) was bred by Willowvale Thoroughbreds owner Stuart McRobert and cost $36,000 through the Glenelg Park draft at the 2014 Inglis Melbourne Premier.  He’s a half-brother to 8 winners topped by Moonee Valley specialist Cut In Stone (Snippets).

He had won an Ararat maiden in November and the VOBIS Gold Carat prizemoney took his earnings to $135,900.

Artie Schiller has four yearlings catalogued for this year’s Melbourne Premier including Lot 583, a three-quarter sister to his Flemington stakes winner Vain Queen being offered by Supreme Thoroughbreds (as agent).
