Rich result in Australia Stakes

Melbourne breeder Dr Chris Gliddon was on Cloud 9 after Richie’s Vibe surged to a Group 2 victory in the MVRC Australia Stakes (1200m) on Friday night.

Gliddon bred the progressive sprinter and will sell his half-brother at the Adelaide Magic Millions in March.

Richie’s Vibe (4g Danerich – Early Wakening by Hennessy) weaved through traffic in the straight to edge out Moment Of Change by a long head.  “I waited and waited for the run to come,” in-form jockey Damien Oliver said.  “I followed the favourite through and was able to knock him off.”

It was Oliver’s third Australia Stakes following Schillaci (1993) and El Segundo (2007).  Schillaci went on to win the Oakleigh Plate and trainer Tony Vasil is considering a similar path for Richie’s Vibe.

“We were going to Tasmania but this looked a pretty soft Group 2,” Vasil said on Friday night.  “He will be set for the Hareeba Stakes at Mornington or the Oakleigh Plate at Caulfield.”

Richie’s Vibe is by Danerich and Gliddon bought his dam Early Wakening for a mere $4,000 at an Inglis Melbourne Sale in August 2004.  The mare’s yearling colt by Astronomer Royal has been catalogued for the Adelaide Magic Millions as Lot 83.

Gliddon bred Early Wakening back to Danerich last year.  The Rangal Park resident has earnings of $1.44 million this season and is sixth on the Victorian sires’ premiership behind Reset, Bel Esprit, Magnus, God’s Own and Elvstroem.
