Ridgeport winner Rocking with Blinkers

Promising Ridgeport gelding Watch Me Rock has unleashed an eye-catching finishing burst to overhaul Madam Kisses (Rommel) right on the line at Ascot.

Watch Me Rock looked anything but a short-priced favourite in Saturday’s Morley Growers Market Hcp (1400m) when spotting front-runner He’s Gold (Rogano) the best part of eight lengths at the top of the straight.

“We knew he was capable of winning like that but we’ve held off adding blinkers,” co-trainer Alana Williams revealed.  “He’s still learning and we’ve waited and waited.  He’s been working enormous at home and relaxed today even with the blinkers.

“He was a fair way off them but really let down in the straight.  He heading in the right direction and could be winning something decent.”

Willie Pike concurred after returning to scale.  “I’ve always had an opinion of him and we’ve been waiting for the penny to drop.  He settled and then produced that turn of foot.  He will take more out of that win and the better the company, the better he goes.”

Watch Me Rock is a 4yo son of Gold Front sire Awesome Rock and was bred by Ridgeport Farm manager Marge Ojapold and Graham White.  Saturday’s result sent his earnings $233,00 including Westspeed Bonuses of $77,825 for a partnership comprising Ojapold, her partner Ben Gudjonsson, Ridgeport principal Santo Guagliardo and Ridgeport team member Angelina Blaskovic.

His NZ-bred dam What Choux Want (Jimmy Choux) has a yearling filly by Rommel that’s been entered for the 2025 Perth Magic Millions.  The mare also foaled a Long Leaf colt on September 14.

Ridgeport Farm stands Rommel (Commands) for $6,600 alongside Ducimus (Snitzel) at $5,500.  Both fees (inc GST).  For bookings or more information, contact Marge Ojapold (0497 478 231), Grant Burns (0410 683 470), Steve Hoare (0409 987 970).
