Right signals from Oratorio

Dan Morton trained four winners in a row at Ascot on Thursday and among the quartet were the Oratorio three year-olds Orright and Oradol.

Mungrup Stud sold them within a half-hour of each other at the 2013 Perth Magic Millions – Orright (Lot 186) made $48,000 and Oradol (Lot 198) changed hands for $44,000.

ORRIGHT (3g Oratorio – This Is Right by Right Wing) was racing second-up and winning looked a tall-order when he tailed the field turning for home.  “I thought we were in trouble at the top of the straight,” Morton admitted.  “He’s still green but finished it off very impressively.  Once he gets his act together, I think he will be a pretty handy horse.”

Orright is from a half-sister to LR Challenge Stakes winner Oxidation (Metal Storm).  Group 1 Railway Stakes winner Old Fashion is another close relation by former champion Mungrup sire Metal Storm.

This Is Right has a yearling filly by Dick Turpin and she foaled a filly by Oratorio last month.

ORADOL (3f Oratorio – Tudor Emily by Rubiton) had won on Melbourne Cup day and she saluted again at Ascot’s postponed meeting on Thursday.  “This filly can be a bit awkward to handle but it was a top ride by Jerry (Noske),” Morton said.  “She was patient and kept her coiled up before taking advantage of the cut-away rail.”

Oradol is a sister to Tudor Royal (6 wins) and a half-sister to Danreign (Danehill Express) who went close to a Pearl Coast hat-trick in August when runner-up on Broome Cup day.  Her dam is a half-sister to G2 WA Guineas winner Kaysart and is a descendant of Champion Fillies matriarch Polo Jane.

Oratorio (Aus) stands for a $16,500 (inc gst) fee at Mungrup Stud and his progeny have earned $990,000 so far this season.  His three year-olds Castle Retreat and Mr Motown can send him through the $1 million mark in Race 3 at Ascot on Saturday.
