Singapore star Rocket Man will be sidelined for six months with a leg injury. The Australian bred son of Viscount suffered a hairline fracture of his off-fore cannon bone during trackwork on Tuesday morning.
Rocket Man has just been rated the third best sprinter in training by the World Thoroughbred Rankings Committee. Scenic Blast and Hong Kong champion Sacred Kingdom are on top at 122 while Rocket Man was next in line at 121.
“He was out to do two rounds of light work but Robbie (Fradd) just felt there was something wrong with him,” trainer Patrick Shaw said. “He’s still a young horse and the prognosis is good so far. We will just have to keep our fingers crossed and hope the operation is a success.”
Rocket Man won the G3 Kranji Sprint in March and the G1 Lion City Cup in April before his courageous second to Sacred Kingdom in the G1 KrisFlyer International Sprint at Kranji on May 17.
He was back in work preparing for the G1 Sprinters’ Stakes at Nakayama in October and the G1 Hong Kong Sprint at Sha Tin in December.
