Former QTIS 2YO star Rocket To Glory is all set to resurrect his career as a five year-old.
The Tony Gollan trained speedster returned to form with a sizzling victory in the Makers Mark Hcp (1020m) at Doomben on Saturday. “I told his owners to miss the winter and concentrate on the early summer races,” Gollan said. “He will have those open company sprints at his mercy.”
Rocket To Glory (5g Shovhog – English Summer by Dodge) earned over $400,000 as a two year-old after a hat-trick of QTIS bonus wins at Townsville, Rockhampton and Brisbane. Raheen Stud had sold him to Mackay trainer John Manzelmann for $20,000 at the 2010 Magic Millions QTIS 600 yearling sale.
Raced by Manzelmann’s wife Stacey and a Longreach-based syndicate, Rocket To Glory had been winless since transferring to Brisbane in October 2012. “He arrived when I was away in Melbourne with Temple Of Boom,” Gollan remembered. “I’m the first to admit it took time to get a handle on him but I’ve learned a few things since then.”
Rocket To Glory is from the penultimate crop of former Raheen resident Shovhog who died in November 2009. Studmaster Basil Nolan bred half-sisters to him by Raheen sires Publishing and Captain Sonador in 2011 and 2012.
