Rockmount managing director Geoff Guest expects to make an imminent decision on a home for G1 Caulfield Guineas winner Anacheeva.

“We are looking at several offers,” Guest said on Wednesday.  “A decision will have to be made soon if he is to get a good book this year.”

Anacheeva (4h Anabaa – Monroe Magic by Zabeel) was retired on Tuesday after trainer Peter Moody declared an on-going knee injury would hinder the horse’s spring campaign.  “You need to be 110% fit for races like the Cox Plate and Caulfield Cup,” Moody said.  “The knee was starting to show some wear and tear.

“I never got the best out of him,” Moody added.  “But he’s a Group 1 winner and has a lot of upside as a stallion.”

Anacheeva is a part of the penultimate southern crop of Widden shuttler Anabaa and is raced by the Rockmount Syndicate which owns a pre-training facility at Longwood in the Strathbogie Ranges.

Anacheeva was a $110,000 buy from the Widden Stud consignment at the 2009 Inglis Easter yearling sale.  He is a brother G1 AJC Australian Derby winner Headturner (Anabaa) and a half-brother to G2 STC Premiere Stakes winner Kroner (Viking Ruler).

He won a Sale maiden in March 2010 and showed enough for Moody to take him interstate where he ran a close up fourth to Skilled in the G1 AJC Champagne Stakes at Randwick.

Anacheeva returned last season to win the Listed MVRC McKenzie Stakes and G3 MRC Guineas Prelude prior to an on-pace victory in the G1 Caulfield Guineas, Australia’s premier mile race for three year-olds.  

The knee injury hampered his autumn campaign although he was third home in the G1 AJC Derby behind Shamrocker and Retrieve.  He was back in action in the G2 MRC Memsie Stakes last week but was never a factor and finished with the tailenders.

Randwick Bloodstock’s Brett Howard is currently fielding offers from several studmasters for Anacheeva.
