Rory’s Jester is nearing his final roll-call. The legendary Lindsay Park sire has just a handful of current runners and one of his last winners arrived on Christmas Eve when Vo Jester won the Family Fun Day Maiden (1200m) at Ballarat.
The only other winner among Rory’s Jester’s 9 starters so far this season is Final Roar at Bowen.
Vo Jester is a member of Rory’s Jester last crop and the statistics are pretty impressive. There have been 670 winners of 2,072 races at an exemplary 76% strike-rate.
Rory’s Jester sired 76 stakes winners including the G1 winners Racer’s Edge (VATC C F Orr Stakes), Isca (VRC Newmarket Handicap), Chortle (Caulfield Guineas) and Aragen (QTC Sires’ Produce Stakes).
Vo Jester (5g Rory’s Jester – Classic White by Regal Classic) has a nondescript background on his dam’s side. She won a Bordertown maiden in 20 starts and had also foaled Brief Truce winner White Banner.
Rory’s Jester (Crown Jester) was trained by Colin Hayes to win the 1985 STC Golden Slipper Stakes and he also finished second to Hula Chief in the 1986 VRC Lightning Stakes. He was Australian Champion First Season Sire in 1989-90 and continued to dominate the juvenile sire rankings year after year.
Rory’s Jester was retired from stud duties in 2005 and was humanely put down two years later aged 24.
