Glenlogan Park owner Jon Haseler has signed Rothesay for his Innisplain nursery. The Fastnet Rock stallion will cover his first book for an $11,000 service fee in 2011.
Rothesay was trained by Gerald Ryan to win 4 of his 9 starts including the G2 Queensland Guineas and G3 Lord Mayor’s Cup. “He is the best horse I’ve trained,” Ryan said after the Guineas. “I knew he was a good one from the first time I let him run. Snitzel used to run sensational times on the track and this bloke is the only horse I’ve had since who gets anywhere near that.”
Rothesay (4h Fastnet Rock – Schiaparelli by Woodman) was offered for sale by Philippa Duncan Bloodstock at the 2008 Inglis Easter yearling sale but was passed in when bidding failed to reach a $150,000 reserve. He was retained to race by breeder Sue Suduk who died after a long illness shortly before last year’s winter carnival.
His second dam Canny Lass (Bletchingly) was a G1 winner of the MVRC William Reid Stakes, VATC Marlboro Cup and Elders Mile. She is a sister to Darley’s G1 winning racehorse and sire Canny Lad.
Haseler is delighted to have secured such an exciting stud prospect. “Rothesay was a quality sprinter-miler by a sire that is taking all before him and he’s out of a proven stallion producing female family.
“He was one of the standout colts of his generation, had a tremendous turn of foot and is a magnificent looking animal.”
Glenlogan Park targeted Rothesay after missing out on Toorak Toff. He will stand alongside Show A Heart, Jet Spur, Real Saga, Falvelon, Bradbury’s Luck and Red Element.
