Royal Ascot Prize for Alfred Nobel

Irish bred colt Dawn Approach has earned rare praise after his resounding win in the G2 Coventry Stakes (1200m) at the opening of this year’s Royal Ascot meeting.

Dawn Approach (2c New Approach – Hymn Of The Dawn by Phone Trick) is now a clear favourite for next year’s G1 English Two Thousand Guineas.  “He’s as good as I’ve ever had,” trainer Jim Bolger declared.  “He has everything – pace, stamina, looks and he has the temperament.  There are no holes in this fellow.”

Bolger prepared his sire New Approach to win the G1 English Derby, Irish & English Champion Stakes and Dewhurst Stakes.  “I will probably give the colt a little break.  He’s a very gross horse so it won’t be too long.  The Irish Futurity Stakes and National Stakes are options.  Then there’s the Dewhurst Stakes and France.  We have plenty to choose from.”

Dawn Approach is unbeaten in four starts and he went into the Coventry Stakes on the back of a Listed victory in the aptly named Alfred Nobel Rochestown Stakes at Naas.

New Approach (Galileo) shuttles to Darley Victoria and, apart from Sheikh Mohammed’s Northwood Park base, the Royal Ascot result was also a fillip for WA based Lynward Park sire Alfred Nobel.

Alfred Nobel (Danehill Dancer) topped the European juvenile rankings in 2009 and emulated his own sire with a G1 victory in the Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh.  He is from a daughter of G3 Matron Stakes winner Dazzling Park and she is a half-sister to New Approach.

Alfred Nobel shuttles from Coolmore to Lynward Park and will cover his second Sunspeed book at a $7,150 (inc gst) fee this year.
