Running double for Redoute’s Choice

Redoute’s Choice rounded off the first day of the Rosehill carnival with a running double thanks to Bid Spotter (LR Manion Cup) and Zingaling (G3 Birthday Card Stakes).

Australia’s champion sire capped a winning day for Arrowfield Stud sires.  Earlier, Charge Forward grabbed another G1 with Response (Robert Sangster Stakes) and Snitzel has a live Golden Slipper chance with G2 colt Salade (Pago Pago Stakes).

Bid Spotter (5g Redoute’s Choice – Isolda by Sir Tristram) was a $31 outsider in the Manion Cup even though he was coming off an away win in the G3 Hobart Cup.  The last time he saluted at home was in the 2009 City Tatts Cup at Randwick.

Graeme Rogerson part-owns and trains Bid Spotter who cost $850,000 at the 2007 Gold Coast Magic Millions yearling sale.  Baramul Stud owner Gerry Harvey kept a share and the gelding is gradually paying them back with $498,000 in the kitty to date.  The G1 Sydney Cup is his main autumn mission on April 23.

Bid Spotter’s dam Isolda was a G1 winner of the AJC Champagne Stakes.  The mare has also foaled fillies by Exceed And Excel (2008) and Fastnet Rock (2009).

Zingaling was racing first up since the Melbourne Cup carnival and she prevailed in a tight finish to the Birthday Card Stakes.

Zingaling (4m Redoute’s Choice – Done That by Centaine) is a homebred for Macquarie Stud’s David Baxter.  She broke through at Warwick Farm in July 2009 and her only other win had been in the Listed P J Bell Stakes at Randwick in April 2010.

Trainer Kris Lees has more black-type in his sights.  “She is a tough, honest mare who always gives her best,” Lees claimed.  “The Sapphire Stakes is next and then she will go for the Darley Crown at Hawkesbury and the Dark Jewel at Scone.”

Zingaling failed to make a $500,000 reserve at the 2008 Inglis Easter yearling sale.  She is a younger half-sister to stakes winning stayer Rainbow Styling (Zabeel) who is raced by Baxter in partnership with Nick Moraitis.

Their dam Done That is a half-sister to South African G2 winner Double Reef (Last Tycoon) and Perth G2 winner Star Of Nouvelle (Star Watch).
