Ryan travels a winning Road

Leading Sydney trainer Gerald Ryan was stunned by the impressive debut of Road To Summer (NZ) at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

Road To Summer (2g Danroad – It’s Spring Again by Last Tycoon) won by four lengths eased down by Nathan Berry in the Fairfield Maiden Plate (1200m).  “He had trialled up well but I didn’t expect him to blow them away like that,” Ryan claimed.  “He has shown promise from day one but has been patiently handled.

“We will aim him for a Saturday race and then sit down and map out a spring program.  He is actually bred to get 2000 metres but he’s got a very good turn of foot.”

Winning sire Danroad (Danehill) won the G2 Challenge Stakes at Trentham and made an immediate impact at stud with G1 T J Smith Classic winner Rockdale and NZ G2 winner Down The Road.

Danroad stands at Highview Stud and his latest winner is a half-brother to black type winner Moti (Don Eduardo).

Road To Summer’s dam It’s Spring Again was purchased by Highview’s Brent Gillovic for the Hong Kong Breeders’ Club.  Her Warwick Farm winner sold for $85,000 to BC3 Thoroughbreds at the Karaka sales last year.  The mare is back in foal to Danroad.
