Miss Flirtacious found a winnable scamper at Narrogin on Sunday and her performance could be best described as a belated easy-kill in the James Squire Maiden Hcp (1190m).
Unraced at two last season, the daughter of Mogumber Park sire Safeguard was unwanted as a $41 longshot on debut at Northam back in October. Stewards reported the filly was fractious behind the barriers but she flew the coop from the outside gate and was still giving through the line when runner-up to Salt Lake Shake (Bradbury’s Luck).
Galvanised first-up after a long summer spell, Miss Flirtatious was never headed as a $2.60 favourite on Sunday and freewheeled from the 400m to score by two lengths from older mare Schnoots (Rommel).
Miss Flirtacious has a WA pedigree going back generations through her dam Lady Natasha (Real Quiet) who was a homebred for former WATC Chairman John Roberts. She won the LR Lindsay Rosenthal Stakes (1400m) at Belmont in 2005 while second-dam Celebrity Princess (Palace Music) won the LR Belmont Oaks (2400m) in 1998.
Lady Natasha’s sire Real Quiet (Quiet American) won the G1 Kentucky Derby in 1998 and shuttled from Vinery in North America to Australia for three southern seasons between 2000 and 2002.
Beginning her stud career in the Hunter Valley, Lady Natasha foaled winners by Commands, Sebring and Stratum before repatriating to Perth in 2011. Gervase Park owner Chris Gales bought her home from Widden Stud (as agent) for $85,000.
She changed hands several times in her home State during a dry spell of one foal from 2012 to 2018. Her final two foals – Military Babe (Rommel) and Miss Flirtacious (Safeguard) – were bred by Santo Guagliardo (Ridgeport Holdings).
Miss Flirtacious was a steal at $6,000 for trainer Luke Fernie at the 2022 Perth Winter Yearling Sale. He kept a share and she races in the distinctive Hot Pink & Black Leopard Print colours of Kim Doak and his partner Maria Manfredini.
