Saints marching in for Southern Image

Widden Stud sire Southern Image (USA) landed his first Australian winner when St Halor scored a two length victory at Murwillumbah on Sunday.  He had been placed at Ballina and Lismore prior to breaking through in the Pottsville Cellars Hcp (1200m).

St Halor (2c Southern Image – Emeraude by Quest for Fame) is trained at Ballina by Kevin Nipperess and was a $24,000 buy from J4S Equine at the 2009 Magic Millions QTIS 600 yearling sale.

Southern Image won’t be shuttling to Widden in 2010.  He transferred to Rancho San Miguel in California this year after being based at Taylor Made Farm in Kentucky since 2006.

Like More Than Ready, Southern Image represents the Halo sireline.  He was bred in Florida by Arthur Appleton and swept the Malibu Stakes (G1), Californian Sunshine Millions Classic, Santa Anita Hcp (G1) and Pimlico Special (G1) in consecutive starts between December 2003 and May 2004.

St Halor’s dam Emeraude is from Sydney stakes performer Emerald Green (Green Line Express).  The next dam is Melbourne stakes performer Starlight Express (Century), a sister to Golden Slipper winner Century Miss.

Emeraude foaled a Natural Destiny filly last October and was then bred back to the Willowbend resident.
