Sakhee’s Secret off the mark in New Zealand

The Oaks Stud freshman Sakhee’s Secret sired his first NZ-bred winner at Te Rapa on Saturday.

A’Larose (2f Sakhee’s Secret – Arduous by Mohamed Abdu) made the breakthrough in the Brokerweb Insurance Hcp (1200m).  The Te Awamutu filly was coasting in front on the corner and was never under threat to score by more than four lengths.

“She’s the fastest two-year-old I’ve had since Quorum,” trainer Robert Priscott said.  “She is very quick and will head to the G2 Breeders’ Stakes at Matamata and the G1 Diamond Stakes at Ellerslie.”

Quorum won the NZ Magic Millions Classic in 1999 before selling off-shore to Singapore.

Sakhee’s Secret shuttles to The Oaks Stud from Whitsbury Manor Stud in England.  He was a G1 winner of the 2007 Newmarket July Cup and was Europe’s leading first-season sire in the winners’ category last year with 24.

A’Larose was bred by Waikato Racing Club chairman David Smith and is out of a half-sister to the stakes winners Maze, Barlinnie and Penitentiary.
