Eclair Big Bang can end a run of outs for (NZ) gallopers in the G1 Caulfield Guineas on October 12.
Eclair Big Bang (3g Savabeel – Ennerdale by Singspiel) firmed into $8 for the three year-old classic in a fortnight after a brilliant victory in the G3 Guineas Prelude (1400m) on Sunday.
Pins colt Econsul (NZ) was the last Kiwi-bred to win the Caulfield Guineas in 2004. But the Prelude has been a reliable guide to the Caulfield Guineas – Anacheeva (2010) and Wonderful World (2006) have completed the double in recent years.
An Adelaide winner at his first two starts, Eclair Big Bang travelled interstate earlier this month to finish third in the G2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) at Flemington. “We’ve brought him along slowly this preparation,” trainer Phillip Stokes said. “He still has to learn to relax a bit more to run the mile right out but he will be peaking for the Guineas.”
Arriving with a perfectly timed finish under Dom Tourneur, he defeated New Zealand visitor El Roca (Fastnet Rock) by three quarters of a length.
Eclair Big Bang made $280,000 when offered by Phoenix Park at the 2012 NZ Bloodstock National Yearling Sale. His half-brother by Darci Brahma has been catalogued for the NZB Ready to Run Sale at Karaka in November.
Champion stallion Savabeel (Zabeel) has now sired 27 stakes winners and he stands for a $55,000 (plus gst) service fee at Waikato Stud.
