Seconds out for Danrich at Geelong

Rangal Park sire Danrich was represented by his second winner when headstrong filly Peninsula Dane scored at Geelong on Friday.

Peninsula Dane (2f Danerich – Portline by Portland Pirate) jumped straight to the front and refused to surrender in the GRC Function & Event Centre Maiden (1000m).

Trainer Matthew Hyland earned his percentage for getting the filly on an even keel after a fractious start to her career.  Ditto for Dan Nikolic.

Peninsula Dane made her debut at Ballarat in February and was a handful for Nikolic in the mounting enclosure and the race itself.  Second-up at Sandown in March, she over-raced again and stewards issued Hyland with a warning.

Resuming at Geelong, she was much better behaved and showed plenty of determination to hold out Testanova by a neck.

Hyland also trained her dam Portline and she won up to 2260m at Geelong in November 2005.

Danerich was a speed merchant winning the G3 McNeil Stakes and Listed Mitchell McKenzie Stakes over 1100 metres at Moonee Valley.  He was also placed in the G2 Schillaci Stakes (1000m) and the G3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m).

“It’s Danehill’s speed sons that have been the most successful at stud and Danerich could definitely motor,” Rangal Park owner Eric Buttler said.  “His youngsters are well boned and have the powerful Danehill hindquarters.”

One of the last sons of Danehill to go to stud, Danerich will on view at the Victorian North Eastern breeders stallion parade at the Inglis Oaklands Junction complex this Sunday.
