A Seidnazar filly topped the 2014 Capricornia Yearling Sale at Rockhampton on Sunday.
Sunshine Coast trainer Garnett Taylor bought the filly for $40,000. She is from the winning Piccolo mare Picabelle and was bred by Banchory Stud owners Richard and Mary Lee Trivett.
The Trivetts raced Seidnazar to a Listed victory in the MVRC St Albans Stakes and he was also runner-up to Undoubtedly in the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes. A son of Rory’s Jester, he originally stood at Riverdene Stud in NSW but was transferred the couple’s Darling Downs property in 2010.
Laurel Glen was next on the leader-board with an Oratorio (Ire) colt that made $36,000 to the bid of Bill Reid. A day before the sale Laurel Glen-bred Mythologist won the Capricornia 3YO Championship taking his career earnings past $213,000. The Hidden Dragon gelding was an $18,000 sale buy in 2012.
The connections of 2014 Capricornia 2YO Classic winner Quick Assault reinvested some of their winnings in a Ferocity – Lots of Allure colt for $12,000.
Sunday’s Sale saw 90 horses average $8,750 at a 76% clearance rate. The cyclone in North Queensland affected the sale with some buyers not able to make the trip south to Rockhampton.
