Sentimental win for Miss Gai Flyer

Miss Gai Flyer was the sentimental favourite for the Typhoon Tracy Stakes at Moonee Valley on Friday evening and she responded to reach out and win the Listed event by a nose from Darley filly Obsequious.

She is prepared by Peter Moody and Victoria’s champion trainer farewelled Typhoon Tracy after the Australian Horse of the Year won the G1 Orr Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on February 12.

Miss Gai Flyer (3f Flying Spur – Power Of One by Gilded Time) was coming off a Listed victory in the Kevin Hayes Stakes on the same day that Tracy bowed out in a blaze of glory.  Moody will set Friday night’s winner for the G2 VRC Kewney Stakes at Flemington on March 12.

Belmont Bloodstock’s Damon Gabbedy bought Miss Gai Flyer for $250,000 at the 2009 Inglis Easter yearling sale from the Torryburn Stud draft.  The filly is closely related to Golden Slipper winner Ha Ha and is raced by Sunlands Produce owners Gary and Wendy Pfeiler.

Torryburn will sell a Rock of Gibraltar half-brother to Miss Gai Flyer at the upcoming Inglis Melbourne Premier yearling sale as Lot 196.
