Champion Queensland stallion Sequalo was put down on Wednesday after a battle with laminitis. The long-time Lyndhurst Stud resident was 24.
Sequalo (Rustic Amber) sired 19 stakes winners headed by Spirit Of Boom, a Group 1 winner of the William Reid Stakes and Doomben 10,000. He is carrying on the sireline at Eureka Stud.
At last count, Sequalo has sired 645 winners at a 69% strike-rate.
He is the latest in a conveyor-belt of prolific winner-getters based at Lyndhurst Stud going back to Smokey Eyes in the 1960s and continuing with Hail to Success, Grand Chaudiere, Head Over Heels and Celestial Dancer who all topped the Australian premiership in the winners’ category.
Sequalo won the 2003-04 Queensland premiership with earnings of $2.75 million. Lion Hunter won the next four championships in a row and Show A Heart followed up five titles before Sequalo claimed a second premiership with earnings of $4.33 million in 2013-14.
