Princess bolts in for Mt Hallowell

Papavero Princess has gone to another level for trainer Summer Dickson this prep and that was evident when she bolted in at Ascot on Saturday.

The Sessions mare was a dynamic winner first-up at Pinjarra on December 1 leading into another easy steer for Steve Parnham in the Quayclean Hcp (1400m).  She tracked El Patron (Patronize) in the three-wide line and exploded in the straight to defeat the favourite Chollima (Starspangledbanner).

“That’s why we get up in the morning to train a winner like her on such a great day’s racing,” Dickson said.  “She’s a big girl and has her own opinion about things so we’ve had to be patient.  Firm tracks help and hopefully she can go through the grades out to mile next year.”

Papavero Princess had won two in a row at Pinjarra and Ascot in February before going out for a winter spell.  “She can be headstrong and was a bit full of herself before the race,” Parnham reported.  “But she was in a good rhythm and felt comfortable in running.  Summer has got her going terrific and she has a tremendous turn of foot.”

Papavero Princess was bred and sold by Mt Hallowell Stud owner Craig Thompson for $50,000 at the 2021 Perth Magic Millions.  She was purchased by Ron Warr and her dam Princess Aubrey (Danewin) is a three-quarter sister to multiple Victorian and Hong Kong black-type winner Elegant Fashion (Danewin).

Princess Aubrey later changed hands for $35,000 at the 2022 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.  She was purchased by agent Marcus Corban acting for Hong Kong owner Dr Gene Tsoi who raced Elegant Fashion and the Australian Group 1 winners Viking Ruler (Danehill), Seascay (Maizcay), Mouawad (Zabeel) and King’s Rose (Redoute’s Choice).

Carlaw Park has catalogued a Noverre – Princess Aubrey colt (Lot 539) for the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale at Riverside Stables on Monday, 10 February.
