Marcus Tregonning guided Sir Percy to G1 triumphs in the Dewhurst Stakes and English Derby and now he’s winning with the young stallion’s first crop two year-olds.
Sir Percy (Mark Of Esteem) stands at Lanwades Stud in Newmarket and shuttles to Rich Hill Stud in New Zealand.
His seventh winner arrived at Chepstow on Wednesday when Cavaleiro scored a three length victory in the Weatherbys Private Banking Stakes over 1600m.
Cavaleiro (2c Sir Percy – Khibraat by Alhaarth) is raced by Guy Brook and was a 78,000gns buy at the Tattersalls yearling sale in October 2010. He is closely related to Sheikh Hamdan’s G3 Park Hill Stakes winner Ranin (Unfuwain).
Cavaleiro has been nominated for the 2012 English Derby.
Tregonning trains out of Kingswood House at Lambourn and he prepared Sir Percy to a narrow victory over Dragon Dancer and Dylan Thomas in the 2006 English Derby.
The bay colt joined an elite group of only six horses – Nijinsky and Mill Reef among them – to complete the Dewhurst – Derby double in the last 40 years.
The first NZ bred Sir Percy yearlings will be offered at the 2012 NZB Karaka Sale. Rich Hill has nominated 18 and there are another 15 from outside vendors. A Sir Percy foal realised $56,000 at the NZB National weanling sale in May.
Sir Percy stands at a fee of $15,000 (+ gst) and he arrived at Rich Hill in time for the stud’s stallion parade this Saturday.
