Zoustar colt Lean Mean Machine has sent his value soaring with an eye-catching victory in the G2 Run To The Rose Stakes (1200m).

He was a $250,000 buy as a yearling for Aquis Farm, Raffles Racing & Blue Sky Bloodstock (FBAA) at the 2017 Gold Coast Magic Millions and the sky’s the limit if he graduates to a Group 1 win during the spring.

Blue Sky agent Julian Blaxland said it’s difficult to put a dollar value on the colt’s residual value following Saturday’s win at Rosehill. “He’s by a rising star in the stallion ranks from a terrific family,” Blaxland told Aushorse. “He’s an outstanding type and you would have to think he would be in the vicinity of $20 to $30 million if he manages to secure a Group 1.”

Champion trainer Chris Waller and winning jockey Tye Angland are also fans of Lean Mean Machine who won a Warwick Farm juvenile on debut in March and the G2 Queensland Sires’ Produce Stakes in May.

“He’s well named and is a pretty sexy colt,” Waller reported. “His father Zoustar came back as a three-year-old and went to a whole new level. It looks like this boy has done the same.

“The (G1) Golden Rose in two weeks will be one hell of a race!”

Angland said Lean Mean Machine was definitely the best looking horse in the yard at Rosehill. “He’s all muscle with a great attitude. I didn’t do any work from the gate and we were going good on the corner. He picked up under hands and heels and felt like a serious racehorse.”

The Run To The Rose looked done and dusted when Graff (Star Witness) collared Jonker (Spirit of Boom) but the leaders were left standing when the winner burst through a gap to score by three quarters of a length.

Blaxland goes back a generation with the family. “I purchased his dam She’s Meaner for $300,000 at the 2007 Magic Millions. She was a very good racehorse and ended up running a lip second in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

“I inspected Lean Mean Machine at Glenlogan Park before last year’s Magic Millions and he looked a little bit behind but had been a bit sick. By sale-time, he looked fantastic and really hasn’t taken a backward step since.”

He was Blue Sky’s fourth winner in a many days following promising 3YOs She’s Furline (I Am Invincible) and Capitulate (Star Witness) who completed a double at Randwick and Ipswich last Wednesday. Raffles Racing mare From Within (Not a Single Doubt) won again at Doomben a half-hour before the Run To The Rose.

Blaxland has also launched Newington Farm with his fiancee Kacy Fogden.  A spelling and agistment facility covering 60 acres, it’s located at Biddaddaba between the Gold Coast and Brisbane. Fogden is racing and pre-training manager with Aquis Farm, a role she will retain, in conjunction with the new enterprise.
