Shadai Farm topped the Keeneland January Sale for the second day running when Teruya Yoshida paid $540,000 for G2 winner Secret Gypsy on Tuesday.
Secret Gypsy (Sea of Secrets) recently retired with 8 wins from 18 starts which included G2 victories in the 2009 Distaff Hcp and 2010 Honorable Miss Hcp. She bowed out with an unplaced effort in the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint at Churchill Downs in November.
Shadai topped the opening session on Monday with a $1.40 million bid for G1 winning Danehill Dancer mare Ave.
Tale of the Count mare Alpha Kitten was next best on the leader board on Tuesday with a $405,000 bid from Spendthrift Farm. She was owned and trained in the same interests as Zenyatta and was a G2 winner of the 2009 Santa Ynez Stakes.
After a positive start on Day 1, Tuesday’s average dropped 13% to $43,476. The five-day sale resumes Wednesday and runs through to Friday.
