Shadwell triumph for Street Cry

Lyric Of Light unleashed a terrific turn of foot to score a final-stride victory in the G1 Shadwell Fillies Mile at Newmarket on Friday.

The Street Cry filly was always travelling like a winner but nearly threw it away when she veered in sharply over the final stages

Lyric Of Light (2f Street Cry – Suez by Green Desert) becomes the 13th Group 1 winner for Street Cry and the Shadwell triumph opens up several options for the Darley homebred.

“She could go for the Breeders’ Cup but that’s up to Sheikh Mohammed,” trainer Mahmood Al Zarooni said.  “I don’t think she liked the good ground today.  Frankie (Dettori) felt she wasn’t happy and only won because she’s such a good filly.”

Notwithstanding a trip to Churchill Downs, Lyric Of Light has been priced at 10-1 for the G1 English 1000 Guineas at Newmarket next May.

Lyric Of Light’s dam Suez was a Listed winner of the Dick Poole Stakes at Salisbury.  Her half-sister Polish Princess (Polish Precedent) is based at Windsor Park in NZ and she won two races as well as being G1 placed in the 2007 Champions Mile at Ellerslie.

Her sire Street Cry was also represented by Listed Prix Coronation winner Limonar at Saint-Cloud on Friday.  Street Cry is serving his latest southern book at Darley Kelvinside for a $110,000 (inc gst) service fee.
