Former Darley sire Shaft topped the Inglis Autumn Sale in Sydney on Friday.
Now a 10 year-old, he was purchased by Victorian breeder Dinah Edwards for $20,000. He initially went through the Newmarket sale-ring for $700,000 at the 2006 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale.
Shaft (Flying Spur) retired to Darley on the back of a Group 2 victory in the Silver Slipper Stakes and he covered an average of over 100 mares for four seasons at Kelvinside. A sole stakes winner in New Zealand from those books meant his days were numbered alongside champion sires Street Cry, Commands and Lonhro.
Shaft will remain at Hardwicke Stud in Yass alongside Catbird’s brother Bearcat.
NZ bred mare Truly Ready was next best on Friday’s leader-board at $11,500. The four year-old daughter of More Than Ready was purchased outright by Colin Haddrick who was part of the Champion Thoroughbreds syndicate that raced her to wins at Newcastle, Kembla Grange and Randwick.
Inglis reported a 100% clearance rate on the 54 horses that were offered at Newmarket.
