Shamardal tops Day 1 at Doncaster November Sale

The only Shamardal in the catalogue topped Day 1 at Doncaster’s November Sale on Wednesday.  Last week’s G1 Racing Post Trophy winner Casamento capped a fantastic year for the Darley sire and buyers were eager to secure his colt from the immediate family of G1 filly Tarwiya.

Offered by Paul Dixon’s Haygarth House Stud, the April born Shamardal colt is from the Indian Ridge mare Helen Bradley and he attracted the interest of Pinnacle Racing at 34,000 pounds.

Successful sire Monsieur Bond (Danehill Dancer) was next on the leader-board with a colt purchased by Michael Easterby for 30,000 pounds.

Day 1 showed increases across the board when compared to the same sale in 2009.  The averaged increased by 41% to 4,627 pounds on a clearance rate of 68%.

‘This sale may not be the most fashionable place to buy yearlings but we have been delighted with the competition for horses,” DBS Managing Director Henry Beeby said.  “We look forward to the remainder of the sale which includes one of the best catalogues of Horses in Training ever to be offered at Doncaster Bloodstock’

The sale continues until Friday, November 5.
