Shez Sinsational (NZ) lived right up to her name with a simply sensational performance in the G1 Darci Brahma International at Te Rapa on Saturday.
The Ekraar mare settled nicely for James McDonald and took over from Postman’s Daughter (NZ) in the straight. She never looked like being challenged while dashing away with her ears pricked.
Shez Sinsational (Ekraar) defeated the ever consistent Hold It Harvey (King Cugat) by three lengths with three-year-old colt Rock ‘n’ Pop (Fastnet Rock) third home. “I expected her to win, her work had been excellent, this is the one we wanted and now it’s onwards to the Auckland Cup,” trainer Allan Sharrock said. “She’s tough, she’s one of those mares the more you give her the better she goes.”
Sharrock took her to Queensland for a tilt at the Queensland Oaks and Derby last year. She finished third in the Oaks behind Scarlett Lady (NZ) (Savabeel) before running second a long head behind Shootoff (NZ) (Duelled) in the Queensland Derby.
Shez Sinsational (NZ) has now won 6 races from 17 starts and she broke through for a Group 1 first on Boxing Day in the Zabeel Classic at Ellerslie.
Red Ransom sire Ekraar stands at Linwood Park in Cambridge and he got Shez Sinsational from the Shinko King mare Original Sin (NZ). Her dam has left three winners to that sire and this year a full sister was sold at the NZ Bloodstock Select Sale for NZ$110,000 to Waikato Bloodstock.
Original Sin (NZ) was a winner of two races and as a three-year-old ran second in the Listed Soliloquy Stakes. She is a half-sister to Shinnecock (NZ) (Woodborough) who won the Listed Wellesley Stakes and ran second in the G1 Levin Bayer Classic before being sold to Hong Kong where he won two more races.
