Warrnambool trainers Bill and Symon Wilde described Hissing Sid’s home-town victory in the Listed Warrnambool Cup yesterday as a dream come true.
“We planned to win this race a long time ago with him,” Symon Wilde said.  “It’s just a feeling of relief and elation.

“He was on song and we thought bad luck would be the only thing that could beat him.  I knew a long way out that he was going to be very tough to run down.  He’s a natural stayer.  He doesn’t take a lot of work and he is a pleasure to train.”

“There’s no reason why we couldn’t get him into a Caulfield Cup,” said Wilde.  “I really think that he is a very, very good stayer.”

Hissing Sid his third stakes winner from limited opportunities for his sire Golden Snake who was on his own winning streak a few years ago.  Over the space of six months in 2000-01 he captured three Group 1 races from four starts.  Overall, his six victories from 15 starts ranged from 1600m to 2400m.

And now he is doing the job at stud.  Last summer his Perth based galloper Gilded Venom was looking a star of the future.  Tragically, he died not long after an exciting win in the G1 Railway Stakes.

Hissing Sid was sold by Premier Thoroughbreds for $25,000 at the Melbourne Premier II Sale.  He is out of the lightly raced At Talaq mare Domitrix – a granddaughter of the great mare Deck The Halls.

Golden Snake’s stablemate Desert King was also represented by a big winner at Warrnambool, his tough son Desert Master a strong winner of the time-honoured Galleywood.
