Road to Rock has started his stud career in the silk department by covering stakes winning mares Hanabananah and Tehama at Wellfield Stud in New Zealand.
Hanabananah won the Listed SAJC Proud Miss Stakes and Tehama the Listed CJC Warstep Stakes. Other mares to be covered in the first week of the season include Ruppertsberg (Montjeu), a daughter of NZ 1000 Guineas winner Clear Rose, and Cold Shoulder, a half-sister to the Melbourne Cup winner Efficient.
Road to Rock (Encosta de Lago – Trewornan by Midyan) retired to stud after a season that netted two Group 1 victories. He outgunned Stradbroke Handicap winner Black Piranha in the AJC George Main Stakes and added the scalps of Triple Honour and Monaco Consul in the AJC Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
Road to Rock is a sire-son of Colmore champion Encosta de Lago. His other sire sons include Manhatten Rain (Arriowfield) and Northern Meteor (Widden).
Road to Rock stands alongside Alamosa and Handsome Ransom at Wellfield. The stud’s open day has been scheduled for Sunday, 26 September.
