Sincero stitched up a trip to Brisbane with a classy display in the $250,000 Inglis Guineas at Scone on Saturday.
Sincero (3g Umatilla – Yours As Always by Prego) is the ruling favourite for the G1 Stradbroke Handicap and the Scone victory would have increased the confidence of his supporters.
In search of his sixth straight win, Sincero was allowed to find his feet before sweeping to the front in the straight. He extended to defeat Hawkesbury Guineas runner-up Speediness (Testa Rossa) who had to settle for another second.
Sincero has won 8 races in 11 starts for earnings of $450,000. That’s a lucrative return on the $8,000 he cost connections at the 2009 Inglis Classic yearling sale from the draft of Nerreman Stud.
“He is the type of horse that gives more when something challenges him,” trainer Stephen Farley said. “Once he gets to the front, it takes a good horse to get past him.”
Sincero won a Wyong maiden and a Wagga Inglis bonus race this time last year and finished his juvenile campaign with a fast-finishing second to Liesele (Exceed And Excel) on Grafton Cup day.
He resumed this season with an unbeaten run at Newcastle and Randwick (3) and, after a further 17 week break, won the LR Gosford Guineas by five lengths on Anzac Day.
The Scone Guineas enabled Farley to join John O’Shea, Michael Tubman and Robert Smerdon in a four way tie for the Inglis Race Series Trainers’ Bonus.
Sincero is by Blue Gum Farm’s 22 year-old sire Umatilla (Miswaki) who was pensioned in December 2009. His dam Yours As Always died in March. She had also thrown minor winners by Luskin Star (2), Spartacus (2) and Zariz.
