Kalgoorlie’s Keith Biggs welcomes back his Group 1 winning mare Sea Siren in the Manikato Stakes at Moonee Valley this Friday.
Biggs knocked back a reported $2 million offer for Sea Siren recently and she impressed trainer John O’Shea when working at the Cox Plate Breakfast with the Best on Tuesday morning.
“It would appear she and Buffering are probably the best two sprinters that are punching around in Australia at the moment,” O’Shea said. “Some of them may have a fitness edge on Friday night but she’s trialled well and should run well. Her ultimate goal is the G1 Hong Kong International Sprint in December.”
A Group 1 winner of the BTC Cup and Doomben 10,000 at the Queensland winter carnival, Sea Siren continues the success Biggs has enjoyed with fillies like Danelagh (G1 Blue Diamond) and Dizelle (G1 AJC Oaks).
Sea Siren (4m Fastnet Rock – Express A Smile by Success Express) is a younger half-sister to Sunspeed stallions Oratorio (Stravinsky) and Discorsi (Galileo). Their second dam Hold That Smile (Haulpak) claimed 1989 WA Horse of the Year honours after winning the G1 Karrakatta Plate.
Biggs sold Oratorio to Mungrup Stud and he has been WA Champion 2YO Sire twice. He retained an interest in Discorsi and Yarradale Stud will sell his first yearlings at the 2013 Perth Magic Millions.
