Sister nails Salinger Stakes for Segenhoe

Sister Madly continued her outstanding run for new connections when she scored a brave front-running victory in the G2 Salinger Stakes (1200m) at Flemington today.

Sister Madly (4m Redoute’s Choice – Jade Tiara by Bureaucracy) prevailed in a three-way finish from Rarefied and Temple of Boom.

The mare has raced on just four occasions for Segenhoe Stud owner Kevin Maloney for a G3 victory at Caulfield and the G1 Myer.  She was runner-up to Sepoy (G1 Manikato) and More Joyous (G3 Tristarc) in the other two outings.

“Her form suggested she was entitled to be favourite but there were signs during the week that she’d had enough,” trainer John Sadler said.  “If it hadn’t have been for Kevin and his family coming down, I would have thought about pulling the plug.”

Sister Madly joined the Sadler stable after being purchased by Bill Mitchell on behalf of Segenhoe Stud for $1 million at June’s Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.

“Kevin said there was no pressure,” Sadler added.  “He paid a million for her mainly as a broodmare and any prizemoney was a bonus.  We will spell her and look at races like the Lightning, Newmarket and the Robert Sangster Stakes in the autumn.

Sister Madly is one of the most valuable race mares in the country.  The daughter of Redoute’s Choice is a half sister to Hong Kong’s former world-champion sprinter Silent Witness.
