Star colt Sizzling will head to the G1 Stradbroke Handicap after bouncing back to his brilliant best in the G2 Queensland Guineas at Eagle Farm.
Racing in a more forward position than normal, the Snitzel colt also raced with the addition of blinkers to defeat Snitzel gelding Dances on Stars by a long neck.
Sizzling (3c Snitzel – Admirelle by General Nediym) has now won 7 of his 16 starts and earned $1.29 million in prizemoney for a syndicate headed by David & Diane Devine. He captured the G1 T J Smith Stakes at the 2012 winter carnival and is the $4.50 pre-post favourite to win again at the elite level in the Stradbroke next Saturday, June 8.
“I had faith in the ability of this horse,” winning jockey Chris Munce said. “I wanted to be a bit more aggressive and make him race with the blinkers on.”
Sizzling was purchased by Queensland agent John Foote for $260,000 from the draft of Evergreen Stud Farm at the 2011 Gold Coast Magic Millions. He was sold on behalf of Milburn Creek breeders John and Trish Muir.
His dam Admirelle has a rising 2YO filly by Flying Spur and is once again in foal to Snitzel.
Snitzel has sired 11 stakes winners this season. He has covered seven books at Arrowfield and will stand for $49,500 (inc gst) in 2013.
Arrowfield made the decision to up Snitzel’s service fee after this year’s Inglis Easter Sale. He sold a million-dollar yearling at Newmarket and they averaged $335,000 for 10 lots sold.
