Swettenham Stud sire Bianconi completed another winning week when Bionic Star scored a determined victory in the Tony Carrick 3YO Vase in Hobart on Sunday.

He was the seventh Australian winner in seven days for Bianconi.

Spreyton trainer Barry Campbell said the sky’s the limit for Bionic Star after the talented galloper kept his unbeaten record intact in Hobart.

Bionic Star (3g Bianconi – Aden by Rory’s Jester) showed his customary early speed to lead and, despite being shadowed by Predator for most of the trip, he emerged triumphant by over a length.

“It was a terrific win – he carried 59kg and you can’t do anymore than that,” Campbell said.  “He was in the gates for five minutes before they finally jumped.  Plus, he was coming off a break and they softened him up in the lead.”

Bionic Star won on debut at two and returned to racing with an emphatic four length victory in a Class 1 against older horses in September.

Campbell was delighted with this latest effort and confirmed the gelding would press on to the $60,000 3YO Cup in Launceston on November 23 after which he would map out a program for the AAMI Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnival.

“I don’t think he will have any problems stepping up to a mile,” Campbell predicted.  “The Bianconi horses can run the distance and nothing seems to worry my bloke.  He doesn’t pull and will be meeting them much better on the weights in future.”

Bionic Star is raced by owner-breeder Craig Hodge.  His dam Aden will be bred back to Bianconi this month.
