Sky’s the limit for So You Think

So You Think has been promoted to outright favouritism for the G1 W S Cox Plate after his stunning return to racing in the G2 Memsie Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday.

So You Think (High Chaparral) can emulate Northerly and Sunline as the only horses to win consecutive Cox Plates since Kingston Town completed a hat-trick in 1982.

The Bart Cummings trained star sat outside Horse of the Year favourite Typhoon Tracey in the Memsie and then dropped the mare in the straight.  He fended off late challenges from Whobegotyou and Shoot Out in a freak first-up performance after almost a year on the sidelines.

Cummings won consecutive Cox Plates with Saintly (1996) and Dane Ripper (1997) and predicted So You Think is only going to get better and better!

“I’ve had a few good ones but he is up there with the best of them,” Cummings admitted.  “He was a bit more forward in the run than we anticipated but he was cantering before the turn.  The sky’s the limit.”

Coolmore shuttler High Chaparral has So You Think ($4.40) and Shoot Out ($7.50) on top of Cox Plate markets.  Darley sire Street Cry has Whobegotyou and Predatory Pricer on the next line at $11.

Shoot Out lost no admirers for the Cox Plate after being hung out to dry three-wide.  He went into the Memsie on the back of wins in the G3 Bletchingly Stakes and G2 J J Liston Stakes and was finishing better than anything else at the end of 1400m.

So You Think (4h High Chaparral – Triassic by Tights) is owned by Dato Tan Chin Nam and Tunku Ahmad Yahaya.  He has won four races from just seven starts and earned over $2.37 million.

Bart bought him for $110,000 from the Windsor Park draft at the 2008 New Zealand Bloodstock Premier Sale.  He is the sixth and by far the best winner for Triassic who was a G2 winner of the Sir Tristram Classic in NZ.

So You Think will appear next in the Group 2 named after his part-owner at Moonee Valley on September 11.
