Smart Art by Starcraft

He was a Group 1 winner as a three, four and five year-old but that hasn’t stopped Starcraft from leaving his share of talented juvenile performers.

Art And Craft (2f Starcraft – Miss Pavlova by Blevic) is a case in point after the Basin Sands Logistics Hcp (1250m) at Morphettville on Saturday.  Already a winner at Balaklava, the strongly built filly sat outside A Saucy Snitzel (Snitzel) and finally got the better of the favourite to score by a half-neck.

Trained by Bill Smart, Art And Craft is raced in partnership by her breeder Bruce Whitting, also the owner-breeder of her dam Miss Pavlova and second-dam Sugarplum Fairy (Western Symphony).

Miss Pavlova won four races in Adelaide and Melbourne highlighted by a Group 3 in the St Reims Stakes (2600m).  She descends from Newhaven Park mare Valour (Wilkes) as do 2YO Champions Burst and Victory Prince.

Six of Starcraft’s 2YO winners have progressed to stakes success at three:  Ain’tnofallenstar, Celebrity Girl, Singapore Sling, Starcheeka and, most notably, Group 1 winners We Can Say It Now and Star Witness.

Art And Craft resembles, and is bred on a similar cross, to G3 VRC Carbine Club Stakes winner Lunar Rise who is from the Sadler’s Wells mare Spirited Dancer.

Arrowfield Stud will stand Starcraft (NZ) for a $22,000 (inc gst) fee this year.
