Snitzel extends winning range at Caulfield

Snitzel’s second crop 2YOs, headed by G2 winners Hot Snitzel and Salade, have supplied most of his black type highlights this season, but his first crop 3YOs haven’t been idle.

The Arrowfield stallion has sired 24 3YO winners this season and two extended their winning records on Saturday.

At Caulfield, Snitza led all the way over 2000 metres to score by almost four lengths in the style of a class stayer in the making.  It was the fourth win from 13 starts for the Rick Hore-Lacy-trained colt, whose three previous wins were over longer distances at Mornington and Ballarat.

The sources of Snitza’s stamina are easily located.  His dam Alba Zitta is a daughter of champion sire Zabeel, whose affinity with the Danehill sireline is well-established, and his dam is the G1 SAJC Australasian Oaks winner Yelgun Dawn.

Snitza was passed in at the 2009 Melbourne Premier Sale and is raced in partnership by his breeder Bill Cockram of Glentree Downs in Victoria.

Snitzel’s second city winner on Saturday was Weekend Special.  He successful over 1050 metres at Morphettville for the second time in four starts.  Bred by Dr Jack Woolridge, Weekend Special was a $25,000 purchase from the 2009 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale by trainer Mark Kavanagh.

Other talented 3YOs by Snitzel include Flemington stakes-winning filly Zelsnitz, Group 2-placed Top Drop, stakes-placed Yorkshire Lad, and last weekend’s easy Brisbane winner Alvitas.

Weekend Special and Alvitas are both from Peintre Celebre mares.  Snitzel stands the 2011 season at a fee of $27,500 (inc. gst).
