Just hours after Alverta gave Arrowfield a great sight in the G1 July Cup in England, her stablemate Milanesa stormed home to win the $100,000 BMAG Brisbane Town Plate (1400m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
Milanesa’s victory was a win-win result for the owner-trainer team of John and Paul Messara. She is by Arrowfield’s freshman Snitzel and yesterday’s $64,000 first prizemoney consolidated his spot on the first-season sires’ premiership.
Snitzel is a son of Arrowfield champion Redoute’s Choice and his Australian prizemoney now totals $1.19 million. He will finished runner-up to Widden sire Stratum, another son of Redoute’s Choice, who has earnings of $2.99 million.
The best of Snitzel’s 10 Australian winners has been G2 STC Silver Slipper winner Chance Bye and there’s more black-type in store when Milanesa returns in the spring.
Milanesa (2f Snitzel – Sheerama by Catbird) came from last on the home turn in a capacity field to score by a long neck at Eagle Farm. “She will have a short break and be set for the (G1) One Thousand Guineas in the spring,” stable rep Barry Wintle said. “She will have no trouble running 1600 metres.”
The Scone based filly finished third to Paris Blu and Shamillion when racing first-up in the $100,000 Magic Millions Plate at Gold Coast on June 9. She was never a chance second-up after being checked behind Shamillion in the Listed Australia Post Stakes at Eagle Farm on June 26.
Arrowfield purchased Milanesa for $230,000 from the Kulani Park draft at the 2009 Gold Coast Magic Millions. Her dam Sheerama is a winning half-sister to G2 MRC Schillaci Stakes winner Patpong (Royal Academy). Second dam Rouquin (Paris Prince) was a Listed winner of the AJC Reginald Allen Hcp.
SNITZEL was the first Australian stallion to reverse shuttle to Japan when based at Shadai Farm for the 2007 northern hemisphere breeding season. He has sired two winners – Floreal and Rurinigana – and two placegetters so far this year for earnings of ¥13.30 million (AUD 170,855).
Floreal (2f Snitzel – Floreana by Dance in the Dark) won by eight lengths on debut at Monbetsu on May 26. Rurinigana (2f Snitzel – Dame de Compagnie by Kingmambo) won at her only start at Hakodate on June 19 covering 1000m in 57.80s.
Snitzel stands at Arrowfield in 2010 at a fee of $27,500 (inc. gst).
