Snitzel celebrated the new year as Australia’s leading first season sire with a quinella in the STC Golden Slipper Festival on Sale Handicap (1100m) last Saturday. The Rosehill result came courtesy of One More Grand (ex Lambada Lady by Seattle Slew) who defeated Rock My Heart (ex Helisseous by Helissio) by next to four lengths.
Snitzel stands at Arrowfield Stud and is a Group 1 winning son of Redoute’s Choice. He was a precocious juvenile in his own right winning the AJC Breeders’ Plate (LR) on debut by three lengths. He trained on at three to claim the G1 MRC Oakleigh Plate against older sprinters including Takeover Target.
One More Grand went into last Saturday’s race on the back of a five length win at Queanbeyan. Rock My Heart made up considerable ground to run second after badly missing the start. His turn isn’t far away.
Snitzel’s other winners so far are Intertidal (ex Miss Rainmaker, by Hurricane Sky) who went back-to-back at Rosehill in October, Chance Bye (ex Rouge Femme, by Red Ransom), a runaway Randwick winner at her only start to date and Bouzy Rouge (ex Blurrta, by Bahhare (USA)) who won at Tamworth last month.
“Snitzel’s performance becomes even more notable when you consider that the runners we have seen were not expensive yearling purchases,” Arrowfield bloodstock manager Jon Freyer explained. “Chance Bye cost $15,000, One More Grand $35,000 and Bouzy Rouge was passed in for $20,000.
“We are receiving good feedback from trainers about some of the higher priced graduates which is generating a real buzz in the lad-up to this year’s yearling sales.”
Snitzel stands at Arrowfield Stud alongside Champion sires Redoute’s Choice, Hussonet (USA), Flying Spur, Charge Forward, Not A Single Doubt and Danzero.
He joined Glenlogan Park sire Jet Spur with four individual winners on top of the table after the Rosehill quinella. Snippetson is next with 3 winners.
