Snitzel is flying at the back-end of the season on the back of his red-hot colt Hot Snitzel.
Hot Snitzel was a dazzling winner of the G2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes at Eagle Farm and he will start a short-priced favourite in the G1 T J Smith Stakes next weekend.
The Arrowfield sire’s late flourish has probably come too late to peg back Stratum at the top of the second-season premiership. Snitzel ($2.07 million) trails Stratum ($2.63 million) and will come up short even if the Gerald Ryan colt collects a major share of the $505,000 T J Smith prizemoney.
Hot Snitzel (2c Snitzel – Flames Of Paris by Blushing Groom) always looked the winner in the Sires’ Produce Stakes. “He travelled kindly and it was an impressive performance,” winning hoop Hugh Bowman said. “It proved he’s probably looking for longer and I’ll be on him for sure next week.”
Hot Snitzel made an immediate impact in the Sunshine State with an explosive six length victory in the Listed Ken Russell Memorial at the Gold Coast on May 7. He is raced by a Triple Crown syndicate and was a $60,000 buy from Bellerive Stud at the 2010 Inglis Melbourne Premier yearling sale.
Ryan trained Snitzel to a G1 victory in the MRC Oakleigh Plate at Caulfield and is on record as saying they’re a tough breed that can run. He stands alongside his breed-shaping sire Redoute’s Choice at Arrowfield for a $27,500 service fee.
Hot Snitzel is from a half-sister to G1 Irish Moyglare Stakes winner Park Appeal (Ahonoora) and is related to champion sires Cape Cross (Green Desert) and Iffraaj (Zafonic).
