Arrowfield sire Snitzel added the first black type to his Japanese progeny record when his juvenile filly Rurinigana finished third in the G3 Nisai Stakes (1200m) at Hakodate on Sunday. She was beaten 1.5 lengths by Jungle Pocket colt Magical Pocket.
Rurinigana (2f Snitzel – Dame de Compagnie by Kingmambo) is raced by owner-breeder Kawashima Bukojo and was having only her second start. She won her maiden at Hakodate in June when covering 1000m in 57.80s.
She is one of three debut winners from Snitzel’s first Japanese crop of two-year-olds, the others being Floreal (ex Floreana, by Dance in the Dark) and Nahema (ex Taiki Prelude by Cozzene).
Rurinigana is from a USA bred mare Dame de Compagnie who retired after just one start. Her only other foal to race is the Japanese bred winner Laurel Axis (Special Week). Second dam Paper Princess (Flying Paster) was a stakes winner at Hollywood Park and Santa Anita.
Snitzel finished second on the 2009-10 Australian first-season sires’ premiership with 10 individual winners headed by G2 Silver Slipper winner Chance Bye.
A brilliant Group 1 winning son of champion sire Redoute’s Choice, Snitzel stands at Arrowfield for a $27,500 (inc. gst) service fee.
