Snitzel sprinters Sizzling, Sweet Idea, Hot Snitzel, Flying Snitzel and Petrol Power all won Group or Listed races at two and then trained on to achieve further black type success in subsequent seasons.
Dances On Stars joined that group on New Year’s Day when he added the LR Carrington Stakes (1100m) to the G3 Kindergarten Stakes he won as a juvenile.
Dances On Stars (4g Snitzel – Starnet by Last Tycoon) was hampered for clear running in the Randwick straight until Brenton Avdulla finally found the space they needed to burst through and win by a short neck.
A $95,000 buy at the 2011 NZB Premier Sale, he has now earned more than $350,000 for owners Brian Mullins, Donna Keegan and Ann & Richard Glenister.
“He’s a very promising horse,” Avdulla said. “I got enough luck from the 100 metres and he was good enough to do it.”
Dances On Stars is trained by Gerald Ryan and is from a city-winning half-sister to G1 winning mare Miss Margaret. He is the 6th stakes winner this season by Snitzel who heads the current Australian sires’ table with more than $4.40 million prizemoney.
There are 41 Snitzel yearlings on offer at next week’s Gold Coast Magic Millions including four fillies from his home base at Arrowfield Stud.
