The Mike Moroney stable collected a lucrative bonus on Sunday after Testa Rossa gelding Sophrosyne won the Chatswood Vase Inglis Bonus Series 3YO Handicap at Seymour.
With Chatswood Stud and Super VOBIS throwing their support behind the race, there was total prizemoney of $130,000 on offer for the 1300m event.
Sophrosyne (3g Testa Rossa – Polenista by Polish Precedent) was a $21,000 buy for Moroney at the 2008 Inglis Classic Sale.
Racing in the same colours as his sire Testa Rossa, Sophrosyne won by three-quarters of a length from Midnight Glory (Invincible Spirit) and Diamondcowboy (Masterofceremonies).
Mike Moroney was thrilled with the outcome and quipped that the lightly raced youngster was racing for just as much money as his Group 1 winner Mr Baritone was in Saturday’s star-studded Group 2 Warwick Stakes.
Inglis Director Peter Heagney was at Seymour and said it was a thrilling result for all involved. “Inglis is very pleased to support country racing and for a $21,000 graduate to pick up $100,000 in a Sunday restricted race at Seymour is a fantastic outcome,” he said. “I know the Moroneys have a good opinion of this horse and hopefully he can continue to improve … but this is a nice start for connections!”
The next race in the $2.5 million Inglis Race Series is a $100,000 Bonus at Flemington on 5 September.
