Spectrolite bombed the start of the AGL Solar Power Stakes at Flemington on Tuesday but she flew home from the tail of the field to lead in a Magic Millions trifecta in the Listed event.
Spectrolite (2f Stratum – Canicula by Rory’s Jester) defeated Gold Coast visitor Military Grace (General Nediym) by a half length with Dinner Date (Mossman) in third place. “She got back a long way and she was very strong at the finish,” trainer Robbie Laing said. “The Magic Millions Classic in January would be an obvious target for her.”
Spectrolite is still not even two, considering she was foaled on November 11. She was purchased from the draft of Baerami Thoroughbreds for just $26,000 at the 2010 Magic Millions National yearling sale in June.
“She’s a beautiful moving filly and has done an enormous job,” Laing added. “She’s by Stratum from a Rory’s Jester mare so it was just speed, speed, speed.”
Her dam Canicula is from a winning half sister to the Sydney based stakes winner Hitapotomoss. Her five foals to race have all been winners.
Spectrolite is the second juvenile stakes winner this season for Stratum following Eramor’s win the recent Debutants Stakes. Last season his pair of stakes winners were Golden Slipper winner Crystal Lily and the Lee Freedman trained Pellizotti.
