Star colt Squamosa is right on course for the Magic Millions 3YO Trophy after winning a barrier trial at Warwick Farm on Friday morning. He won an 800m hit-out out by a length clocking a quick 47.60s.
Squamosa (3c Not a Single Doubt – Class Success by Success Express) will resume in the Listed Razor Sharp Hcp at Rosehill on December 18. The $1 million Magic Millions 3YO Trophy will be run at the Gold Coast on January 15.
The Gai Waterhouse-trained sprinter concluded his initial campaign with a front-running second to Toorak Toff in the G1 Golden Rose in August. He went into the early-season feature on the back of an unbeaten hat-trick.
“He is a terrific horse and he keeps improving,” Waterhouse said prior to the Golden Rose. “He has speed from the gate and then a second turn of foot up the straight.”
Squamosa is by Arrowfield Stud sire Not A Single Doubt and was purchased by Denise Martin’s Star Thoroughbreds for $140,000 at the 2009 Gold Coast Magic Millions. His dam Class Success was a Listed winner at Ellerslie and Avondale and she also scored at Moonee Valley.
Apart from his Sydney colt, Not A Single Doubt is also the sire of Doubtful Jack who was a G3 winner of the VRC Bobbie Lewis Stakes at Flemington in September.
He created another first at Karaka last week when one of his Ready to Run graduates made $230,000. The previous highest price for a Not A Single Doubt at public auction was $170,000 at the 2010 NZ Premier yearling sale.
Not A Single Doubt’s stud record now stands at 75 winners of 142 races at a 62% strike-rate. He stands alongside his own sire Redoute’s Choice at Arrowfield for a $13,750 (inc gst) service fee.
