Goodwood Park stallion St Averil (USA) sired his second winner when Jim’s Prospect broke her maiden at Laurel over 1400m on Saturday, October 10.
Jim’s Prospect (2f St Averil–Pam’ssummerwind by Rodeo) was bred by the late James Glenn and is raced in partnership with Kaygar Stable. She circled the field turning for home and surged clear at the furlong to win by 2.5 lengths at the Maryland course.
Jim’s Prospect is prepared by veteran conditioner Carlos Garcia (69) who leads the Laurel trainers’ premiership from Dale Capuano.
Garcia saddled four winners in the lead-up to the Columbus Day long weekend. On Friday, he scored with Baltimore Bob (Malibu Moon) and Quantico Hero (Yarrow Brae) and then on Saturday he topped and tailed the card with Sharp Lioness (Lion Hearted) and Jim’s Prospect (St Averil).
Capuano trained the first winner by St Averil when Goddess Angel streeted her rivals by more than five lengths last month. St Averil shuttles to Queensland from Bonita Farm in Maryland. His first Australian foals are on the ground at the Allora farm.
St Averil (Saint Ballado) represents the Halo sireline and he was runner-up to Coolmore shuttler Lion Heart in the 2yo Hollywood Futurity (G1) and returned at three to win the G2 Santa Catalina Stakes.
St Averil stands for a $5,500 (inc gst) service fee at Marshall and Joyce Boyd’s Goodwood Park alongside Legal Opinion (Danehill), Specialize (Bluebird) and Duntroon Digger (Royal Academy).
