St Remy a first for Star Witness

Widden Stud’s Group 1 winner Star Witness opened his account as a sire when talented filly St Remy scored an exciting debut victory at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Prepared on the track by Noel Doyle, St Remy jumped fast from the outside gate in a field of eight to lead throughout and kick clear to win the 900 metre dash by a length.  She is eligible for the $2million Magic Millions Classic in January and will no doubt be headed in that direction.

A $180,000 Magic Millions purchase for RMA Bloodstock from the Southern Cross Breeders draft, St Remy was the most expensive filly from the first crop of yearlings by Star Witness.

Bred by Senga Bissett and Ivan Woodford-Smith of Ashleigh Thoroughbreds, St Remy is the third winner from three foals to race from Stage Beauty, a winning half-sister by Desert Prince to Group 2 winner I Am A Ripper and to the dam of Group 3 winner Murphy’s Blu Boy.

Winner of the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes at two and G1 Coolmore Stud Stakes at three, Star Witness was the best sprinting colt of his generation and has been popular since retiring to Widden Stud covering 497 mares in his first three seasons at stud.

Star Witness has 10 entries for the 2015 Magic Millions and 27 for Inglis Classic.
