Arrowfield first-season sire Starcraft was flavour of the month at the Magic Millions April Sale at the Gold Coast on Friday. His highly regarded two-year-old Starlin topped the leader board at $320,000.
Starlin was one of 77 lots to be sold at the sale which boasted an outstanding clearance rate of over 96%. The average price on the day was over $9,300.
Starlin (2c Starcraft – Maid For Me by Belong To Me) was placed at Eagle Farm on debut in October. He will now race for Queensland based owner Peter Wildman who was part of the original partnership that raced the colt with Gold Coast trainer Maryanne Thexton.
Starlin is from a city winning three quarter sister to Parfumier and half sister to Patou – the stakes performed dam of Golden Slipper winner Polar Success. It is the same family of the AJC Oaks winner Circles of Gold – best known these days as the dam of champion gallopers and exciting young stallions Elvstroem and Haradasun.
A Starcraft yearling colt offered by Oakwood Farm was also in demand. He was sold to Magic Millions as agent for $90,000. Yearlings by Sequalo ($50,000), Charge Forward ($40,000) and Snippetson ($31,000) also proved popular with buyers.
Magic Millions Managing Director David Chester was thrilled with the high clearance rate and strong prices. “This would probably have to be the best monthly sale we’ve held,” Magic Millions Managing Director David Chester commented. “The quality lots sold well, but there was still plenty of value.”
Chester said the attention of Magic Millions was now squarely on the Southern Hemisphere’s premier breeding stock sale – the National Sale – which commences on May 26. “We hope the buoyant selling this year continues with the National Sale.
“Selling commences with the National Weanling Sale and will continue through the Broodmare and Yearling Sales with over 2100 lots on offer.”
